Applied for Landscape Artist of the Year for the first time and was pleased to be selected as a Wildcard contestant in St James Park. It was a great day out although I can’t say much more until after broadcast in February 2026. Among the nice comments made by the many onlookers, one lady told me that if my painting didn’t win she’d eat my hat. I’d be breaking contract if I said it was in the post to her!

Art in the Outwoods

Come and paint a woodland scene like the ones above. I’ve been running a monthly painting class in the Outwoods Events Barn, just next to the cafe and they’ve been going really well - see review below

With the onset of Autumn, I won’t continue with fixed dates until next Spring but I am still available for bespoke sessions, just contact me and we can arrange something.

Reminder that absolutely everything you will need is provided, including sketch book, pencils, paint, brushes, easels and board. The only piece of kit you should bring is a mobile phone with a camera if you have one

You’ll get friendly tuition plus lots of positive and constructive feedback. There’s even an opportunity to frame your work afterwards at a small extra cost. We’ll be working in acrylics so wear old clothes or bring an apron

What a great way to spend the afternoon!
I bought Richard’s painting course for myself and my mum as a Mother’s Day gift and what a great time we had!

Richard was patient and encouraging, walking us through a step by step practical approach to painting and seeing composition whilst supporting us to find our own style. We were very pleased with the results and would do it again!

Your project will be handled in a reliable, friendly and professional way. My rates are quite reasonable, with prices generally ranging from £200 - £400 depending on size and complexity.

A popular size is 60 x 40 cm and typically that would come at £325 including the frame.

I can work from decent photos or am happy to pay a visit if you or the subject requested are anywhere near where I live in the East Midlands.

A 20% deposit secures the job but I won’t ask for the balance until you are completely happy. Since I’m keen that you will be, I’ll be keeping you in touch at every stage of the work.

Start to Art - Quorn

Start to Art is a new art course beginning on Wednesday January 7, 2026 from 10.00 - 12.00 for six weeks at Quorn Parish Hall. Introductory cost is £90 and this includes all materials used

This has been organised in conjunction with Charnwood Drawing & Painting Club and with the support of Quorn Parish Council and Rawlins Community Trust.

The aim will be to cover the basics in drawing and painting and it’s designed it for absolute beginners or those who just haven’t touched a pencil or paintbrush in a long time. My view is that we all have the ability to create art, we did it every day at primary school but many of us have lost touch with it since then.

The first three sessions will cover drawing skills such as tone and perspective and then we’ll switch to paint for the final three sessions. The intention is that participants will have produced their first landscape painting by the end of the last session.

After the course has completed there will be an opportunity to join in weekly drop-in sessions at the same time
